Power of Social Media

When you hear quotes from worldwide billion pound organisations like McDonalds saying “Our head of social media is the customer” you know that Social Media has the power to make or break a company. Which path you go down all depends on how your business portrays itself on Twitter and Facebook which have a combined population of over 1 billion users.

There are 175 million tweets sent out each day on Twitter so if you hit the right spot with potential customers this social media platform can be very beneficial to you, if you know how to use it, and that’s a big if. In January 2012 McDonalds made a big mistake and used a hash tag with a tweet which allowed people to give their feelings on McDonald’s food and let’s just say they regretted doing it.

But, Social media blunders mean that it’s just as possible to make your campaign a success as old spice did with their “The man you could smell like” viral campaign which attracted over 6 million views in the first 24 hours.

As you can see once you’re able to harness the power of social media the rewards are massive. The biggest excuse we hear is “we don’t have the time” but even 30 minutes a week is better than nothing, the expression 10% of something is better than 100% of nothing springs to mind. Just think of all the potential online customers that you’re not utilizing through the power of, yes you guessed it, social media.
