Decimate
Historically meant to kill one in every ten (thus reduce by a tenth), but now is commonly used to describe the removal or destruction of a large portion of something.
e.g. The insects decimated the crops.
Annihilate
Destroy, wipe out or completely erase.
e.g. The poison could annihilate the fish population.
Expunge
Rub out, erase or remove, particularly from written records.
e.g. His conviction was expunged from the records.
Redact
To edit or prepare a document for publishing by obscuring or deleting personal or sensitive information, but not destroying it.
e.g. The court requested that witnesses names were redacted.
Abolish
To formerly put an end to, or get rid of a practice or system.
e.g. The aim was to abolish child poverty.
