03 Sep Stafford & Stone Schools Need Your Support For This Year’s Young Enterprise Programme
As a company who volunteers their time to as business advisors and as Secretary to the Stone and Stafford Young Enterprise Board we would like to cite this blog from the Chairman of the Board – http://conspicuous-cbm.com/blog/staffordstoneschoolsneedyoursupportforthisyearsyoungenterpriseprogramme.html.
September sees the start of the next exciting Young Enterprise company programme where schools in the borough of Stafford compete with each other to create business that develop, make and sell innovative products to the local and national markets. Stafford & Stone Area Board has had an outstanding success delivering the programme to schools locally in the last 5 years with 2 National Finalists and 2 West Midlands Regional Finalists. Now we are looking to expand the programme and want to make sure even more young people enjoy the benefits of Young Enterprise in Stafford & Stone.
In this rapidly changing economy, we believe it’s essential for business and education to work together to ensure that today’s students have the opportunity to become tomorrow’s business leaders and enterprising professionals.
Across the country there is a network of national and local businesses just like you supporting Young Enterprise through:
• individual and group employee volunteering
• financial support to help deliver local Young Enterprise programmes
• supporting our YE awards to recognise young people’s achievements
• in-kind and pro bono support
• advisory and trustee board opportunities
Why as a business should you get involved withYoung Enterprise?
Working with Young Enterprise gives you the opportunity to directly support and inspire young people in your area and empower them with the confidence, ability and ambition to succeed.
Young Enterprise business supporters benefit in many ways, from the motivational and professional development rewards of employee volunteering to demonstrating their commitment to measurable and effective Corporate Social Responsibility outcomes.
Read some of the testimonials below from people who have been involved with Young Enterprise:
“YE is a fantastic opportunity for young people to experience the commercial world and gain business insight and acumen outside of the classroom. Early last academic year the MD of our school team “Tempo” through the process of YE and the mantra “Learning by Doing” realised her flair for Business. She quickly changed one of her options to Business Studies, worked incredibly hard with the teacher and independently and gained an A grade this summer. How would she have discovered this talent without the company programme? YE affords young people fantastic opportunities to explore their personal strengths and develop their weaknesses whilst simultaneously enhancing their communication and collaborative skills. The Company Programme takes the pupils on an amazing journey which is formative for them and they remember vividly for the rest of their lives.” Becci Mason-Cowley, Head of Sixth Form at St Dominic’s High School For Girls
“Watching young people grow and their amazing creative approach they take to starting their businesses each year shows that they there are no barriers to their imagination or ceiling to their ambition. It is totally rewarding to see the products being sold at the Trade Fair from humble beginnings, and of course watching the young people involved mature into successful young business people. In addition for me at Lilac Films, the opportunity to discover and work with some amazing film-making talent here in Staffordshire has been a real revelation.” Steve Cranston – Managing Director at Lilac Films
“I began to work with Young Enterprise because I believed I had experience that i could share with students that would help them to develop their ambitions and understanding of business. Whilst this was actually the case, in practice I was pleasantly surprised by how much I learnt from them. Their enthusiasm and energy was infectious and I always came away from our weekly meetings reinvigorated and ready to move my own business forward.” Mike Santopietro – Director at the Alternative Board Stafford
“I originally volunteered as a Business Advisor for Young Enterprise, seeing the programme as a great opportunity to ‘give something back’; to be able to pass on my knowledge and experience of running a business. It’s extremely rewarding to see young individuals, taking part in the YE Company Programme, develop business acumen and product innovation over the course and to know you have shared a small part, and hopefully made a difference, in their learning experience of the business world. I made progress myself and volunteered to sit on the Stone and Stafford Area Board, currently acting as the Board Secretary. I would whole heartedly recommend individuals and businesses to join in and help support our future entrepreneurs and leaders. Young Enterprise is a great enrichment to the national curriculum with grassroots knowledge being shared by business professionals .” Anna Woolliscroft – Creative Director at Market Avenue Ltd
“I wanted to became involved with Young Enterprise as a Business Adviser after being involved with it at sixth form. Being given the chance to create and run a real business which made something that people wanted to buy was a great experience and something which taught me a lot of lessons in how to work with other people, take business decisions and above all, make a profit. Now as a business advisor I can help current sixth form students to set up and run their own businesses. Its brilliant being able to help them through the different stages of setting up a company, choosing a price and working out how to market and sell their product. Its also good to refresh your own memeory on how to manually run a balance sheet and calculate taxes!” Mark Hayward – Company Secretary at Cundey Systems Ltd.
“If I had the opportunity to do YE again I would in a heartbeat” Kirsty Lord – MD of Felicitas National finalists 2010
