Dearth

A scarcity or lack of something.

e.g. The island suffered a dearth of natural resources.

 Davit

Crane-like device for hoisting or lowering a boat from the side of a ship.

e.g. There was a thorough inspection of the life-boat davits.

Demotic

Relating to language used by ordinary people. Colloquial.

e.g. The song was written in a looser, more demotic style.

Desultory

Lacking in purpose or enthusiasm.

e.g. Some people pottered along in a desultory fashion.

Didicoi

Gypsy, nomad or itinerant.

e.g. He was collecting scrap metal and seemed to be a didicoi.
